Building company logos

A few logos I have been looking it for some ideas for one of the branding briefs I am doing. They're not the most attractive of logos but I suppose it is the kind of aesthetic that is required by that sort of business...there's a few crafty ideas in there, some of them are pretty bad though.

a few bits and pieces.

A few bits and pieces I have come across relating to my Exhibit A brief. Demonstrates quite a definite aesthetic style between your normal text/image kind of logo and something that full on represents the nature of the magazine. It might be nice to look into alternative ways of conveying these ideas, something a little more experimental and unusual, not so much in a graphic design sense, but I don't know something a little more abstract and arty maybe.

Seanwes

Some nice pieces of lettering by a guy called Seanwes shown to me by EDDIE cheers mate. Quite a lot along the sort of lines I've been aiming for recently.

magazine inspiration.

A few bits and pieces me and Eddie have been looking at. I tried to steer away from overly-designed pieces but a few have slipped in there; the main issue with this is that the only fishermen to buy a magazine that looks too designed would be the ones who also do graphic design. It's hard to find magazines that truly strike a balance between simply serving a purpose and looking extremely well designed.

Aesthetic research - fishing logos

Various fishing-related logos, just to get an idea of the kind of aesthetic systems used within this particular field. A lot of them retain quite an 'un-designed' kind of style; whether this is intentional or not I am not sure, perhaps it is more effective than a visual identity that has been carefully considered and thought out.

Jason Carne

Another skilled lettering artist I have come across this evening, perhaps not as experimental in terms of the media he uses but still fully on it with these pen sketches, the rest of his work has been digitalised and looks very nice but not in the same league as these drawings. I've done a fair few sketches recently but not really attempted to combine them with shapes and other illustrative elements yet, I have a feeling as of tomorrow I will attempt to do so. I have a long way to go to get anywhere near this standard however.

Drew Melton

A few pieces of work by this guy I came across named Drew Melton who operates through this website:

http://yourjustlucky.com/

He seems to have a dedication to pushing the boundaries of lettering that not many others seem to match;a lot of his pieces are straight onto the surface, no computers involved, just sketches and paint. This is the sort of thing that makes me happy when I look at it, it's taken me a while to find it but I truly enjoy this kind of work....luckily it seems to be the popular thing right now as well. There is something properly fresh about painting straight onto a glass jar; it's all to easy to design something on the computer and do a straight transfer using vinyl or something equally flat and uninspiring...

Ches Perry sign painting

I'm aware this is a sort of pledge video but it's still pretty nice to watch him paint up a few letters here and there, he's obviously got many years of experience in the business.

Robin Abbey - sign painting

Found this neat little video on my searches, sign painting is something I have become quite interested in recently (as I'm sure a lot of people have). He raises a good point; quite often the quality of the lines stand out far more than that of a digitally rendered piece of work, and more and more these days people are looking for a more unique product.
